First post.

Hey there! This is my first public blog. I had a private one for over 10 years, so big new adventure here.

I'm starting this blog for a few reasons:
  • as a resource guide. I'm constantly sharing 'how to' and 'what to get' lists with coworkers and friends. And I know there's a lot of info online - good and bad - and hope to contribute to the good.
  • as a library of my manis. Right now I have a hard drive full of them, post them on a lovely nail group I'm in, and on my CynnaNails facebook page.
  • as a project. I have so many manis I want to try, and nail art bits that I want to experiment with, it'll be fun to play with it all and show how to (and maybe how not to!) use them.
Why nails? As a long time lover of beautiful nails, but never able to grow them myself, I've been having a fantastic time finally being able to grow my nails past the smile line (where the white part starts), and having them look good more than 20 minutes post-polish.

My nails always shredded - they'd peel in layers, break off, be jagged and short. Tried every nail hardener, tried press-on and glue-on nails. I owned every clear polish there was, as it was all I wore. OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark was the only coloured polish I could ever wear for more than a few days, only because it suits super-short nails, and the thick consistency meant I could slather more on the inevitably chipped tips every night.

Winter 2012: I read an article on soak off gels. Fascinated, I researched for a couple months, then won a $300.00 prize in a 50/50 game at work, and went straight to Sally's. Armed with a list from my bible of soak off gels (sogs) from a fantastic board I'd found, Purseblog's soak off gel beginner's thread, I bought a Gelish LED light, Gelish Foundation and TIO (top coat), a few colours, some tools and a huge gallon of non-acetone polish remover - oy!

I've since bought a bunch more colours, glitters, stones, studs, tools, feathers, and foils - endless fun bits for pretty nails. And amazingly, I now have to cut my nails down when they get too long - never, ever would I have believed this would be needed for my nails.

Hope this blog helps you have prettier nails, and gives you some information and inspiration. :)
